How often do you see a genius study really hard? It is not like they have special ability. The difference between a genius and an average Joe is their ability to relate information, and also their ability to retrieve it.
When you can relate information, and form relationship, you can understand the text better. This is way better than hard core memorization because when you finally understand the concept, you no longer need to memorize because it is already in your brain database.
But nothing is perfect, sometimes you do need to memorize, and when that happens, here where your creativity comes to play. Like most memorization techniques, the best way to memorize is to create stories that is interesting enough that you can recall without problem.
So here is my two cents to imitate a genius, or even become one.
Seek to understand and form relationships
Find a common pattern, there is always one
Find the purpose, get the "big picture"
Have fun with it by challenging yourself
Root yourself in the fundamentals
Work yourself towards every single one of them, I could guarantee you that if you try to do it and turn it into a habit or even second nature, you could definitely get a better grade because its just that simple.
I know this is not a comprehensive list, but it is close, its how I figure out what works and if you stick to it or explore more, you will find your way to become a genius and to get better grades.
